Ever since the economy started heading downhill everyone become more aware of what is going on. In the recent weeks, we have found out Arnold’s plan to cut many educational funds to colleges. WE are in such a great debt that, school was the only thing he could think of cutting. Well by cutting funds to the california college systems he has just declined thousands of students dreams. He Should give some of his hundreds of millions to help fix the devastation that he caused to the states econmoy.
As for myself im very concerned. I applide to both CSU's and UC's. Either way all the money that i need isn't there. NBow my chances of getting into any college have been limited. Each year all the colleges have a certain amount of applicantion that they accept. Now because of what our govenor decided to do, all have been cut by 10,000!If that isn't shocking or devastating i don't know what is.To know that the schools have to increase the tuition by 10% is outrageous. the school systems have already suffered a dramatic cut and now there’s going to be another one.
As a senior in high school im scared to find the outcome of this decision.

So, from what i read in the article, it seems the UC's need to make some cuts, so they are going to need to have to deny access to several students. This affects me directly because I plan to going to a UC. and even if i dont end up going to a UC the students that dont get accepted have to go somewhere else so there is going to be more competition

My feelings about the cut are extremely bitter sweet.

From one perspective it is widening the gap between the rich and the poor by causing only those with the best grades, test scores, and need the least amount of financial aid (generally those in higher income brackets) to get the opportunity of having higher education. Then if those in the lower classes do not get into one of the 'almighty universities', they miss the chance to get their foot in that door of opportunity. As a result, once again minorities get low paying, low skill required jobs. Meanwhile those in higher classes obtain their golden ticket education and their red carpet treatment.

On the flip side, this large cut-back is going to make obtaining a college education harder to get and more impressing to have thus raising its value. Ten years ago, a college education was fairly uncommon and highly valued. More recently, degrees became highly more expected, and frankly, things had gotten to a point where it was uncommon NOT to have one when trying to get a 'good' job, that years ago one would have been qualified enough for with only a high school diploma. With these new limitations, the value of a diploma may sore thus balancing things back out again.

This just makes it harder and builds up the competition for us and next generations to get into college, like it wasn’t already very competitive. CSUs are planning to cut/decrease their enrollment by 10,000 students. At first when I heard about this budget cut from the news I was like no way, the government can spend a ton of money on other things like building a train system but not helping education. Any of us could be the ones they cut. I applied to many CSU’s and I hope that I am not one of people they cut. By cutting students from CSUs, community colleges would be pretty packed making it harder to get into those classes. I think this whole thing is crazy and the government needs to get their priorities straight.

I learned the State Schools would have to cut enrollment because of the budget crisis we're in. I feel so bad. State schools were supposed to be schools that have passing curriculum that the public could get into if Private schooling was an issue( IDEALLY). Now they are hard to get into. It's crazy and totally unfair. They are making it extremly impossible for regular common people to succed in society.

When i hear about things like this happening, just as i am about to graduate high school, it gets me mad. Budget cuts should not be made toward education. We are the future of this country and our education is in jepordy. I know that money has to be taken out if somewhere but taking it from education will be a bad idea. How is this country suppost to prosper in the future with a bunch off uneducated adult leading it, just because people couldnt afford a higher education. Things in this country are getter worse by the minute and government official are not thinking of the long term affect of these cut, and that kind of thinking is what go us in this mess in the first place....well peace out.

It is ok to take on debt as long as it is an investment that you plan to make every effort to complete (e.g. tutor for math, read on a regular basis, etc). Your financial letter will include:

(1) Grants (free money, if you qualify)
(2) Subsidized loans (which means the federal government will pay your monthly interest until 6 months after you graduate from your last degree)
(3) Unsubsidized loans (you pay the interest monthly immediately)

I understand that california is in a big crisis right not but its really sad that we are now left with having to cut money from education. I mean its hard enough for people to get into to a good college its now going to be even harder and they are going to have to pay more with money that they dont have. Its sad to say that more people are going to be turned down from colleges. I mean we shouldn't have to resort to cutting education because its one of the most important things that everyone needs to better themselves and have a good life with a good education and now some people won't be able to have that because of the issue of money and cuts.

I think its absolutely ridiculous that California has the 8th largest economy in the world and we don't provide its citizens with more opportunities to get a college education. We should try to find other places to make budget cuts. Yeah it sucks and no one wants to make budget cuts but we have to fix this somehow and thats how we're going to go about doing it. It sucks even more that the working and middle class are going to be hit the hardest especially since most financial aid goes to them. Its unfair that now they might not be able to go to college because of the overspending earlier generations did. Now we have to pay for it. This will affect me because I rely on financial aid to help me pay for my college. Now people my age are going to have to take out more college loans and be in more debt after college. I think we should cut from other places not education.

WOW..
I feel that taking money away from any kind of educational programs, especially from elementary schools, high shools, colleges AND universities is wrong. PERIOD. It is hurting everyone who has dreams about going further with their education. There are tons of families out there that are going through a financial crisis and this is just adding more pressure. This will definatley have an affect on the upcoming freshman.
Arnold Schwarzenegger in my opinion is making things a lot, lot worse.. and i'm sure i speak on behalf of a lot of students. Taking money from our schools, is giving us the disadvantage to learn at the BEST of our abilities. >=[
