Reporting: What is too far?

Shooting in Tijuana results in 13 dead, 5 injured, and 8 arrested

CAUTION: THE PHOTOS YOU WILL SEE IF YOU CLICK ON THIS LINK ARE GRAPHIC

If you click on this story, then click on the photo at the bottom right corner, this will take you to a slide show. The slide show contains photos (of the dead, shot up cars etc) about the two gangs that fought in the streets of Tijuana. We don’t see photos like this after a gang shooting in U.S. papers. Should we?

Well, one of the reasons we don’t show things like that in America is because of even what you put: “CAUTION: THE PHOTOS YOU WILL SEE IF YOU CLICK ON THIS LINK ARE GRAPHIC”
And it’s not that people mind the gory stuff and don’t want to see it, because we have shows and movies like that on television… I think it’s just the element of surprise. I was watching the first episode of this one anime, and this kid like 10 years old had his head blown off by a rifle like the first time you see him… I was shocked, and it kind of disturbed me at first because I didn’t know this anime had that kind of stuff on it, but after I realized that this anime had stuff like that in it, I was pretty much fine for the rest of the series…

And as for if it should be shown in the newspapers in America and stuff, it might make an effect of, “Hey, this isn’t TV. That stuff is real O_O” or it could have the complete opposite effect of no one caring about it because we’re so immune to it via the movies and television. I think it should probably just not be put in the papers and stuff, partially because of the privacy issues that Purther talked about, but also because of the no warning thing.

I myself don’t mind seeing graphic, gory pictures. it does freak me out. i didn’t get to see the slideshow that showed these photographs. Graphic or not, I think that displaying these photographs isn’t going too far, just as long as it’s not televised for all children to see. Kids at their young age don’t need to see that.
But another thing is if they decide to show these graphic photos in the media/news, I think it’s best that they get the consent of the person in the photograph (if they’re still alive) and/or family members so that there won’t be any issues as far as privacy goes, as Robert had mentioned.

well i think we should, but i dont think the united states would agree with me, only because pictures such as this are ” disturbing” and not somehting you can show on tyhe news unless parents start making sure their kids dont watch the news Things like this should though be seen n the news and people showuld know about it, jsut not the pictures. The info though should be known, people should know what is out there. I would want to know. i think this topic is hard to deiside, there are good reasons to it and there are bad things, i think the us should make a channel for al this graphic things, but of ourse be labeled M for mature, and should have a code to get into but of course is a regular basci channl;e such as 5 or 11. o and one more thing people might start to get scared and this will make many people cautious of whats out there, now im jsut confused what i would want.

The first 3 photos are the most disturbing. : /
The people of the U.S. watch tons of shows like CSI and movies that have really gory stuff in them with murders and things like that. But I think having real photos of real situations would disturb people, it would really make them think, like hey, this stuff is really happening around here. I’m not sure though if I would approve of it being in our papers or news, I’m leaning more towards no, because I don’t think the people themselves planned on having their bodies shown to the nation after they are dead, especially if they were murdered, or shot, it’s in respect that the photos remain with police and investigators so they can do their jobs, and if shown to anyone would be the families if they needed to see anything. But pictures shown with caution tape..an ambulance..or fine.. just as long as they’re not disrespecting the victims’ bodies.
I really do think people should be educated and aware that things like this go on in our world today, but not to the extent of showing really graphic photos, because like I said, I kind of doubt they would want their pictures shown all over the world, especially in the condition their bodies are in.

Ok.. wow those pictures are crazy! Ok. The news here in the Unites States. I believe that if they do first of all show those pictures on live t.v. alot of people will call and complain. But what i believe that people do not see is that, pictures such as those that I saw are real. They are little wana be thugs out here in the U.S. and think that it’s all fun and games being a involved in gangs. The youngsters in are era do not know what a gangster is and what type of violence they are involved until one day they are actully the victims and say, well I did not know if was going to end up like that. The news shows bad news all the time and at the end show 1 min. of a good event that took place in a community, so I say why not. Why not show the photos, why not show what some victims here in the U.S. are involved with? I think that parents of those who children or teens are involved with gangs should definetly see these photos. Especially those that think their Cool in gangs. IF they are able to show movies with sexual content and much more gore than those pics I think they should be able to handle real life violence.
(reporting live from mc 7, now back to you) ;)

you would think that by now, seeing these images we would be ready to see such graphic images. I don’t know about you, but i thought it was pretty disturbing. but to be completely honest, i felt more uncomfortable watching saw 4. i know that sounds pretty bad but its true. i really don’t understand why our media is censored up the ass when they show worse content on some of the shows that are featured on those channels. on the news they have to give a disclosure prior to showing a naked man that is blurred out anyway. the news has to explain itself before showing anything that even comes close to being explicit in nature. but yet some of the shows can be explicit in graphic or sexual content, just because they can. i personally don’t think america is ready for news to show life how it really is. we look at these photos and think, how fucked up must life be over there for this to happen, this is awful. but in reality, american gangs are ten times worse, we just don’t see it in the media. just because our little episodes aren’t seen on t.v. doesn’t mean they’re not there. for those of you that watch telemundos’ “primer impacto”, you know a thing or two about gory. this spanish news station seriously doesn’t hide anything. is it because latin america is ready for that kind of reality? i don’t know. but i think primer impacto is one of the more honest news stations.

tee hee. you know I’m right :)

  7. 7 Andrew-west

All those pictures are honestly nothing compared to your everyday csi show. The only thing is that its not fake, but true. And thats what america cant handle, the TRUTH. We hate the truth and rather blame other people and not accept that these kind of things are happening. So I doubt America ready to see these kind if things. Not because of the gore, but because of the fact that everyone will all freak out. Just like all the other laws we make to “protect” our “innocent” childrens mind. HAHAHA, i know it sounds stupid now days with the generations these days. But you cant fight the goverment and their old ways of censorship. Goodness i hate censorship. =]

well ya thats about all..im done

  8. 8 David.L

    i don’t know. it’s a pretty two-sided argument.
for one thing, there is the whole freedom of press thing, which should include freedom to show images such as these.
but on the other hand, some of these photos, especially of the dead people, would conflict with freedom of privacy.
as well as the whole censorship problems.
i think, probably, on things like public papers, they should be just as censored as they are now, to protect “innocent”, and keep the doubting, “i don’t believe the world is bad” people happy. but on more private things, like internet and maybe some televison (probably cable), they should probably be able to show those things.

    but i don’t know.
    it’s just talk.

  9. 9 Robert Ovcharenko

we should at least have reports about, if people don’t to see the pictures, then at least tell what happened. lives are ripped short, gangs kill each other, yet all we what to hear about is Britteny Spear’s new hair style, so even if you do, give this kind of coverage to gang wars, will it make a differences? would people care? will it cause a difference? maybe. And if photos are provided, more people would be interested in it. if providing pictures increases, then we should do it. if it would cause people to care more about human lives then it should be done.

  10. 10 celise

Pictures of crime scenes such as these are very graphic. I do not believe that anyone else but the police and investigators should be able to see this. If the news reported on a stry such as this one and showed these kinds of pictures it’s more than likely that children could see them. I don’t know of any parent that would want their child to be exposed to this, especially because it is real and not happening in some movie. Also, pictures such as these would really hurt the family of the victim. If your loved one was shot down would you want everyone being able to see the gory details? I know I wouldn’t.

  11. 11 Andrew Laffin

I’m perfectly fine with the media being this graphic if it helps to inspire action in the community. The fact of the matter is, gang violence is pretty bad in Southern California, too, and if seeing real people die because of this violence, not in the stylized way it looks on TV, but in real life, then maybe people wouldn’t be as apathetic. Of course, in reality, reporting like this in America would only inspire the people to fight against the media for showing this kind of stuff, but still.

Of course, I don’t necessarily want absolutely everything to be fair game. Purther brought a good point about violating privacy, so I think that showing these kinds of images should only be alright with the permission of the victims’ families, which would probably never happen, so there really doesn’t seem to be a point to this at all. Crap, I’ve just talked myself into a corner. Oh well, my point still stands… I think.

  12. 12 Briana Ramirez

I actually heard about this on the news and thought it was pretty weird.I dont really believe that the media should sensor images that deal with sex or violence to anyone because its part of our daily lives. Everything is out there for a reason, but on the other hand it could hurt some people like family members and and certain children. It is important to remember that the truth must be out there and that it should be exposed to solve issues and creat justice for society. Some people will give no importance to thses images and will concentrate more on other stuff that isnt important. There are two side to this in the end what matters I believe is that if there are any problems they should be resolved the best way possible.

  13. 13 LEsLiE

In my personal opinion these pictures aren’t as graphic as I expected them to be. There probably not as graphic to me because since my senior project has to do with forensic science I see them all the time. However, I really don’t think its adequate for children under 14 to see those type of pictures because that is what influences them to rebel and have bad actions towards other people. However, its not the kids fault its the parents because the parents shouldn’t be allowing them to watch things that aren’t age appropriate. However, for people that are 18 and older its there choice whether they want to see the pictures or not. In a way it would be really good if the media showed us graphic pictures, that way we actually get the idea of what are the consequences towards some crimes. It is something that people can hide because its just life, its something that happens everyday and everywhere. THe society just has to stop being so conservative and expose to other people what they should be aware of. Everybody knows that crimes are real anyways, so why hide the truth? I know its for the best, that way little kids wont see details but that should be up to the parents to decide whether they want to let them see it or not. However, there is a down side to all this, because I do believe we do need to ask for consent of the family member that was shoot, killed or abused etc. I wouldn’t think that it would be appropriate for other people to be showing things that is none of there business unless having consent from the family members. I know I wouldn’t really want other people seeing something with out my permission. Hence, in a way it really would be a good idea showing graphic pictures, but in the other hand its not due to the safety of the kids.

  14. 14 Frenchie C

This is a situation in which i believe isn’t that big?!? I am aware that children/ kids do watch this but i do know that the internet does ask parents to limit their sources to children. I don’t think that showing this is such a big issue as long as it has a caution or warning sign. Our society is corrupted with much more other things that we should be worried about other than this. If parents don’t want their kids watching or seeing pictures such as the ones shown than they should be their on the internent AT ALL times with their child. Sometimes reality needs to be shown others because the world isn’t one big happy place with a rainbow on top, a smiling sun shinning down. It’s completely the opposite.

  15. 15 Aaron Kapp

hmm, i guess actually having names would be going too far. as well as clearly discernable faces. but the names part only applies in certain situations. for example, in something important like a violent criminal on the loose i would want as much information as possible (ie: where the SOB/b was, what his/her name is, what weapon he/she is carrying, what he/she looks like, etc) but in the case of celebrities……..i really couldn’t care any less unless you count hating the reporters who dig up the stuff on celebs for doing that job. i guess it depends on the issue at hand. so im really not sure, except in the above mentioned extremes (i mean, who really gives a fuck about britny going insane or comando? seriously, who?). like someone up there said, if it isnpires action in the community, then i have no problem with the news being that graphic. if we could just get rid of fucking gangs, i think that we will have a significant decrease in crime. but our police force isnt getting the funding that it needs to operate at full efficiency and it doesnt have the manpower to just sweep gangs off the streets, so i predict that the news will be reporting this kind of story for a while (and other news sources outside of america will be showing lots of these pics). then again, maybe if reporting was this graphic, law enforcement would get enough funding to do what it needs to do. but that’s just a vain hope.

  16. 16 Ruben Z. West

I think that at the end of the day the newspeople in Mexico do this all for a quick buck, or peso. Lets say there is a newspaper which is $.50 which in the cover reads “Victims Gather Over Their Loss” with a picture of a kid crying on his moms shoulder. Right next to it there is another newspaper with the same story but that one reads “5 People shot and killed over gang violence” with a picture covered with a Graphic Caution label on it selling for $1.00, I think it would catch more attention that way so the person walking by will pick up the bloody newspaper. This is what goes down in Mexico but as we know Mexican police is as good as a security guard at your local grocery store so that means there is no prevention of gang violence, which occurs often in mexico. So there its normal seeing blood in the news, and here I guess it can be made into a smart way of making money if your smart about it LoL.

  17. 17 Gabriela J

Ive watched mexican news, I remember when the world trade towers were attacked and I watched telemundo. I switched back and forth from telemundo and fox 11 and could see the graphic difference in their reporting. I remember seeing actual people jumping off the building and hitting the ground. I was shocked to see such horrible images and kept thinking that children watch this and they shouldnt be subjected to such graphic images. I think they should stop showing graphic images like that because it may seem disturbing at first people become desensitized which isnt good.

  18. 18 Chelsea

So we all seemed worried about children being exposed to these kinds of gory images and messages, but when was the last time you saw a child pick up a newspaper?

I don’t think that it is so much censorship as it is protecting the privacy and respect of those involved in news worthy incidents. If we gave our American reporters that kind of freedom imagine what gory crime scenes such as this would be like. The scene would be swarming with reporters and camera men. It’s bad enough that our natural tendency is for the public to swarm to see the gore, but we don’t need to give reporters free range to further impede law enforcement’s ability to resolve or investigate. The families, friends, and all others involved would be suffering enough grief, I don’t think that they’d want even more cameras and microphones in their faces than we already have.

Its true- we do need to be careful what we put on the television and radio- mediums easily and readily available to children- but just because we can’t post those pictures doesn’t mean that we should change the story. Just because we don’t have the gory photos doesn’t mean that the story is no longer one of gore and horror. I think that because of this slight censorship it is up to the writers and editors to make sure that the story is factual and true to the actual event, even if they aren’t able to publish the gory images.

  19. 19 Stephanie Van Zant[EAST]

i think that by showing images like this, actually gets the story across. i think that we;re too protective and by telling our kids the truth, they could get a clearer understanding too. little kids aren’t picking up newspapers and watching the news so i don’t see how it could bother them as long as there is a warning first, i think it should really be okay. there could be a point where too much is too much. i mean it could be a lot more the family to take too and they don’t want that stuff displayed on t.v.

  20. 20 Martin S.

Surprisingly, I do not consider those pictures to be too graphic. But i know that is because I have watched every single seaon of Charmed, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and Heroes. So since I am already into these kind of shows, the pictures were’t too shocking to me since I have basically grown up watching these shows. I mean seriously, I was 8 years old when Charmed came on and they have some graphic episodes, and I actually watched it when I was 8. I was a weird child! Haha! But anyway, my parents didn’t realy care that I watched it becasue my parents don’t like all of the censorship that occurs in everyday media. So basically, theses pictures don’t surprise me at all. I strongly believe that the American government needs to STOP CENSORING so much of our daily media such as the newspapers and daily news. We can’t be protected from everything, we all KNOW that weird crap happens out there and I think if we were not censored, we wouldn’t be so shocked when scary and bizarre things actually DO happen.

  21. 21 Eric J.

I believe our media needs to show these photos. It allows our youth to see that there are real effects to what happens. It also separates video games and real life.

I know this tactic works. I recently got an email telling of the dangers of texting while driving. The email contained pictures depicting a car that was split in half after colliding with oncoming traffic. In the pictures, it shows the driver of the vehicle. Well, pieces of the driver. Seems when the car was split in half, his torso was separated from his legs. Not a pretty picture to see. This effectively make me stop texting while driving, for fear of the same incident.

Pictures like this should be in the media, because people have a right to see, and it will be better for us in the end.

  22. 22 Andrea A.

We should show photos like these here in America because people can actually see what’s happening, instead of just hearing or reading about it. When people see things, shock factor makes them not do it, for fear of it happening to themselves. Once people realize how bad and how much crime is going on and seeing the consequences firsthand, they will understand that it’s wrong.

Other countries have television and newspapers that show even worse. We have freedom of speech and expression, so why not use it to it’s full potential. Educate the public and show the what’s really wrong instead of just showing a clip 30 seconds on the 6 o clock news.

  23. 23 Hans N

I believe that our media should show these images. It not only brings the actual event to readers eye but it envokes action. I know i respond differently to reading 1000′s of people were murdered and seeing a picture of 1000′s of dead bodies. Stories like this one occur fairly frequiently within our society yet they are rarely talked about and it they are they are given a spot 2 minute stop in the news After tonights football scores and before what moives are coming out this weekend. That is my take on this matter. I know others feel that it is to graphic and dont want pictures of their loved ones dead bodies all over the evening news. Both sides have a valid point to them. But ya…

  24. 24 Chris Hitchman

Man the U.S is sooo lame. They want to hide their kids from the truths that happen everywhere. Stuff like this always happens in our neighborhoods. The media doesn’t want to show the truth cause it might be damaging. What will happen when one of our kids see this without knowing what it is, they will freak. If they know before hand they will be more calm about it. It is crazy though, those pictures. Tijuana is a very violent location because of first, a lot of poverty there. Also a lot of immigrants from Central America and South America go there to cross the border. It is a place full of disorder. In 2004, Tijuana alone had the biggest numbers of kidnappings in all of the world. Stuff like that happens all the time, and here in the U.S and pretty much everywhere else.

  25. 25 Laurie -West

I think these kinds of pictures should be viewable in the media, because it’s the only way (in my opinion) that we’ll really know exactly how bad a shooting/fight was, and therefore would discourage all the wannabe gang bangers that are out there and scare them into getting their lives straight. If we don’t see what really happens, then we won’t think of it as a big deal. Of course, these kinds of pictures should not be shown unless the appropriate people give consent, and also I don’t think it should be easily accessible for children to see. I know in Spanish news they have a lot less censoring with this kind of stuff, and I think that to an extent that’s a good thing because we’re not given a story that makes us feel “Oh. that sucks…anyway, moving along…”, but rather we really see what happened and it really affects us to the point where we don’t want to be in that type of situation and therefore take the precautions we need to and want to stay out of that kind of trouble.

  26. 26 arpa hachadourian

So there was a shooting in venezuela, big deal right? The fact that people have the fore-thaught to actually write a story and publish actual photos on dead people is horrific.

In the U.S. they show death, violence, burglury but never show the truth.

By a person is of the age of 50 they will have heard about over 1,000,000 deaths that have occurd in the news.

This is why there is so much violence in this country because of the way violence is portrayed in this pop- culture of ours.

In europe they shun the idea of showing violence on public television. On the other hand the have no problem with full frontel nuditity. They show nude women and men on tv all the time.

The U.S. would ofcourse show this kind of violence on the news. Why wouldn’t they,? the’ve shown worse
    !

  27. 27 Sam Barker

I don’t think anything graphic should be portrayed in US media. Children watch these shows too often with their parents. They see it everywhere. I feel a constant reminder that the youth of America are being de-sensitized by the world we live in. Nothing is good news these days, so why bring even more darkness out into view?

If someone really wants to see something gory, they can find it.
Check out Rotten.com. It’s disgusting, but it is out there.

I feel news of this nature should be restricted from mainstream media.

  28. 28 miss. watson :]

WITH THE AMERICAN SOCIETY SHELTERING THE PEOPLE FROM TRAGIC EVENTS LIKE THIS, SEEING PLACES WHERE THEY DO SHOW TRAGIC IMAGES IS CURSED BY THE AMERICAN PEOPLE; THEY SAY IT IS TO GRAPHIC AND THEY SHOULDNT BE SHOWING THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

THE QUESTION IS, IS IT REALLY WRONG?

WHY SHELTER THE PEOPLE FROM WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING, IN THE WORLD THEY ARE LIVING IN? THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW, IN AS MUCH DETAIL, WHAT IS GOING ON IN THEIR WORLD.

    HELLO. FREEDOM OF THE PRESS.

IN MY OPINION I DON`T THINK THAT ITS TO MUCH, I RATHER SEE GRAPHIC PHOTOS OF THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING; THEN BE IGNORANT OF WHAT IS HAPPENING AND WHEN I ACTUALLY DO GET A CHANCE TO SEE IT UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, I GO CRAZY AND FREAK OUT.

I RATHER HAVE MY KIDS SEE THINGS AS THEY ARE, SO THEY DON`T THINK THEIR WORLD IS ALL KISSES AND HUGS, LIEK THE COUNTRY WANTS US TO THINK.

  29. 29 Kraig L-West

I really feel that we should be given the privilege to see these pictures because they represent the harsh reality of the world we live in. Part of the reason why people dismiss the majority of major incidents out there is because we have a tendency only to believe what we see with our eyes. Every incident is magnified and the real impact is felt after seeing pictures of the harsh cold reality, and it helps to make sure people know that these horrible things actually happen. A good example is 9/11. Most people had trouble believing that something of that magnitude had actually occured prior to seeing visual evidence of the incident. This goes for incidents of all levels not just such great magnitudes, we need to be brought down to earth sometimes because we have this great idea we are untouchable and that we are completely safe, the reality is harsh though and we need a wake up call every now and then. We need to be shown these pictures so we know the reality of the situation.

  30. 30 Jacobo Arellano

these pictures were very graphic and maybe too horrific for kids or any other people to see out there. but also not showing or reporting these stories are bad for the public. i have heard of many stories that contains many killings of young people and I’ve never seen in being reported on the news. kids will later realize that things like this happen, now it wouldn’t be a good idea to report all of the stories to the news because then people would become numb to it, saying “ooh another shooting, well that sucks, oh well” but not reporting any stories or pictures is bad too because once people see it or hear about it they might be freaked out for a while, i mean it is already freaky but you hear about it enough to know that this is life and murder and death happens. so the best idea is to not censor all the stories but not to show all the stories out there.

  31. 31 Taurean

Seeing those pictures is like nothing to me. We see it all the time in movies and tv shows that sometimes can be a lot worse then this. The only difference is that this is real. I think there should be pictures like this in the news because it makes the story more compelling and you feel for the victims. This would open up peoples eyes more to the gravity of what has happened. Do i think the majority of people will be willing to accept this? who knows but there will always be people who don’t want to know or see. But when I see pictures like these its like wow those are actual people whose lives were cut short tragically. It’s really a shame that this kind of stuff happens.

  32. 32 Abel.C

I think we should my uncle goes to Mexico all the time and brings back the newspapers with him so he can read them and i always see stuff like this. I DONT SEE WHY it would be a big deal not to have them here in U.S. papers. this whole country is full of crazy psychotic ass motherfuckers those images wont even make them squirm. im fine with it. my cousins boyfriend takes these kinds of pictures in Mexico for the police and since i kick it with him all day i go. I’ve seen the worst man. i want photos like this to be in newspapers to show people how its really like you know

  33. 33 Damien P. - West

spanish channels and news papers always take things too far. im bein seroius. my grandparents enjoy watiching the news in spanish because they say that english news reporters are too scared to get up close and personal. i dont thin thats the case. i mean theyll warn us about violent imaging when someone gets their ass kicked, and wont even dare show a dead body. y? censorship. i honestly think we are being babied by the gov’t and this trying to control what we can or cannot see. other countries show all this and people know whats going on. not here though. i agree with kraig when he says that this must be shown to the public in order to show how violent things really are.

  34. 34 jay north

I think a lot of people would agree with putting these types of pictures in the newspaper. I mean it is reality, we should not hide the truth about violence from the paper. A lot of things like this happens and people experience it themselves. They were there and we should see how they feel when seeing someone like that. I see these type of acts in movies and some actually portrays them good enough to make it look real. All I am saying is that no matter how bad it is, we should be able to see the truth.

  35. 35 Irene-West!

It doesn’t make sense how there’s discrepancy of whether to show these images of things happening in the world around us, but it’s alright for games and television shows to portray violence. The only difference is because these images are REAL. I think that it’s important to see the truth, it shouldn’t be questioned whether to show these images because people need to be informed and things like this shouldn’t be sugar coated. Because, unfortunately, the reality is we don’t live in a perfect world full of peace. The world around us shouldn’t be sugar coated to us on a silver platter–people need to be informed of what’s happening.

  36. 36 lee Davis

These photos were graphic but they also were scenes of what happens in reality. Our news is fine the way it is. Our news will show the bodies under the white sheet but not as much blood as shown in the photos. Maybe to get a point across our news should show in full detail what happens in these type of situations. To let people know that it is not a pretty site to be in a gang or to kill in general. The News will need a special rating when they come on television or tell parents to send their young ones in another room. It is the straight forward truth if the news does decide to depict images on t.v.

  37. 37 Christine

Well first of all the first thing it says is caution photos may be too graphic. I really don’t think that it is a bad idea to post pictures like that up. First thing people should know what is happening in the world that they live in. Besides all the good things that we think we have and live in aren’t all what is out there. There are so many gang shootings happening out there and not a lot of people know about them. I think people should see the clips or photos of these violent crimes that occur in our everyday life. Instead of posting things up that don’t matter there should be more news of what happens in our society. Even if the photos are too graphic that is why there is a caution statement made before reading or seeing the photos.

  38. 38 Irene-West!

The world around us shouldn’t be sugar coated to us on a silver platter–people need to be informed of what’s happening.

These pictures here in America would be considered gory and disturbing. The job of these reporters is to report the news that goes on. If something like this happens they are expected to report fully, even if its disturbing, the people should be informed. People who are disturbed just shouldnt look in my opinion. This is news this is the reality of the world. Things like this sadly happen many times. some people choose to live in their own little happy world where nothing goes on and everyones happy and gets along but the truth is that probably wont ever exist. I personally dont think there is anything wrong with these pictures being printed in newspapers and websites and even aired on tv. That might have a large part to do with the fact that Ive been to mexico before for long periods of times, Ive grown up going over there and the news over there is more detailed and they arent afraid to show some things. And for legal issues its not like you can see any of the victims faces in any of the pictures. Like when i think of the warning that was placed at the beginning of this blog caution these photos are graphic reminds me of one time I was watching the news and the reporter is talking about this little girl who drowned in a dam.She then warned the audience that the graphics that she was about to show of how she died were graphic, but they turned to be a computerized assumption of how the water dragged her around. It wasnt even near graphic. For me i guess also because im interested in working at the hospital and ive seen dead corpses at the morgue before its not that huge of a deal or that graphic to me cause its only a picture. No big deal really.

Those pictures were very harsh and graphic. For someone who doesnt see a lot of violence they were horiffic but because of TV today they were nothing. On TV everything is fake and we know that but to see something equally as bad and be real is really sad. I think that we should be informed of news like this. It will help us get a hold of reality. I also thing that violence like this should not be taken so lightly. The violence in video games and on TV is making people think that things like that is nothing and purely entertaining.

those pics werent bad at all. iv seen wayyyy worse. my service learning dude Allen showed me some nasty pics of a shotgun murder by the Manenson brothers i think it was. it was pretty friggin gross. But it was really hard for him to even find the pictures online. I think its crazy how the media is censored. the truth is sugarcoated and the fiction is dramatized. hahah it makes me laugh =]

i think we should show pictures like these just to show people whats really going on. but at the same time i think people dont really want to know like really know know what terrible things are happening which is why we dont show them in the first place. everything is covered up and censored in the united states and i think its going to stay like that for awhile.

Pictures like these are not diturbing at all since we see them all the time. yes it does make us feel bad for the injuries or deaths in real life but most times on tv or movies we see things beyond this. Movies show extremely disgusting things so i guess i can say i am not disturbed as much as i was when it first came out. The U.S should display gory pictures and news that way we are aware of the news around us. This can be very important because it informs you that this is going on in this area so you should be aware of it and avoid being out doors or things of this sort around that particular area. Awaring people of scary news can possibly reduce the amount of innocent victims that are often killed by inteferring or being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

i think that they should allow it i mean some people do like and if you just dont look at it i think it right to put the picture to show that it really happen not some false story show the picture and show what people have to go through its sad yeah but we see worst things on tv, movies, tv shows, even in books for example the child call it is very sad and you can actually picture what the mother does to the child or hotel rawanda that movie was filled with blood those picture are nothing compared to things we have in media! the news you see things like this to maybe not to bloody but you do and i think the pictures arent really that bad

regardless the 4th branch of the government aka the media will probably not show any type of “gory” images. to further make us ignorant to the outside world. the culture that we are being fed is to fuck the people outside the walls of the u.s fuck them they can fend for themselves. but the reality is because of country’s like us, we starve them of there abundant natural resources and further belay there advancements. by making us ignorant they control more power within the states. and can do what they wish, by controlling us into believing that things lie that don’t happen. and if they don’t not to watch or look. by putting disclaimers.

Yes, it would help Americans to see that the gang war is real. The only time we hear about it is when they kill a child or an old person, but really they are killing thousands every year. Americans need to wake up and address the problem of gangs. No, I don’t think that gangs will ever go away, but I think we can definitely weaken there power.
Even though I do think America needs to see these images I just don’t think they are ready. These damn people can’t even understand that war is necessary to our survival. There talking about stop the war and we were just bombed not too long ago or have they already forgotten. Americans are way too naive about the problems that our government faces. If we showed pictures like those some cry baby would be talking about how it gave her child nightmares and start picketing. But you know what; kids need nightmares about this stuff so they can stop living in the sheltered fairy tale worlds. This kind of media really needs to be shown but I doubt it will be. The American people need to wake up and get a real kick in the ass because there slacking big time in ALL areas.

i think it should be allowed in the media. it might get people to realize whats going on and actually do something, instead if just sitting there and whinning about it. of course the issue of privacy should be considered. if the family approves then go ahead, as long as WE dont know the identities of the victims.
if they fight against this, how will they justify shows and movies that show simialr images? they might say their child will become traumatized, but most children are exposed to this through TV and video games. at least this way, the media is trying to get an actual message accross instead of rotting our brains
and although this might inspire people to take action, we as a society have become desensitize. its seen in movies and TV shows, so some may not really care. sad really.

I think Americans are a little sensetive on how the media potrays violence. They want to belive that everything is picture perfect and that violence wouldnt occur to them. They are careless on what happends out on the streets. Most of the time they want the media to censor images of gory bloody images. They do it for the kids they dont want children to get a bad image in their head or have horrible violent nightmares. The truth is that we all need to be aware of what occurs to the average person that is exposed to violence on the daily every day life. Mabye these pictures of what occurs in reality will help us wake up and smell the roses and take action on what really occurs in peoples lifes. The media wants people to portray life as a wonderful perfect brady bunch episode. The truth is that life isnt like that and we as Americans need to wake up and smell the roses!

I see spanish words.. stuff I don’t understand.

But its true. Todays movies and video games are so close to the real gore and guts of it all that there’s hardly a fault in comparison, until you’re the one living it.
I don’t know how I’d react if I saw a crowd suddenly disperse at the sound of bullets tearing through a majority of the standing flesh. I know instinctively.. you DUCK! A lot of people believe you can compare a movie/video game to the real thing, and thats where they’re wrong.
I’m not suggesting you go and figure that out, but its kind of like jumping into a really cold pool for the first time. You don’t know how to swim, or breathe.. all you have are the lessons you were taught repeating in your mind, hopefully you hear them.. abide by them. If not, you drown. You basically die. At the cost of being caught dumbfounded.

i think that pictures like this shouldn’t be censored because they’re real. why would we censor the truth? people need to know what’s going on in our society, why certain things happen and how they’re dealt with. Yet, you watch the news and everything is blurred out. people think that movies are “the real thing” but in reality, dolls don’t come to life and stab our sons and daughters, yet it seems that in the 90′s, chuckie (childs play) was the scariest figure around. and all along, they’re afraid of this doll killing them, while they’re calling someone racist names, not knowing that tomorrow that kid just might come to school with a gun. some people do things without knowing what the consequence will be like because the news only give us half of the story. we see pictures of the people involved, but never pictures of what happened. Yes, we know people get shot, but some kids don’t really know the power of a gun. I don’t think it’s as important for adults to see pictures like that,as it is for children, because THEY are our future. it’s important for them to know what’s going on, and what not to do. pictures are gross, but video games aren’t real. we can’t rely on video games to teach our kids what sex and death really is. but we do anyway.

i really think that the media and government havent been publicizing these pictures because they might be way to graphic to the majority of the people. i personally dont have a problem with these types of pictures being shown. i really think it is neccessary for us to see these pictures, unlike of what we see in the movies or other shows. but you also have to keep in mind that there are small children who are watching this. they are going to be affected really badly when they get older. the parents also have to keep in mind that if their child watched this, the children might get some negative ideas about all the graphics that is being shown. i guess that we should keep it the way it is for now, before we endanger the lives of so many children and everyone else.
