Oil hits a high; some in U.S. see $4 gas by spring
7 Comments Published by clay February 27th, 2008 in International, U.S. Politics.I would like to see schools and businesses look at the 4-day workweek, because of the rising oil prices.
Gasoline prices, which for months lagged the big run-up in the price of oil, are suddenly rising quickly, with some experts fearing they could hit $4 a gallon by spring. Diesel is hitting new records daily and oil closed at an all-time high on Tuesday of $100.88 a barrel.
The depth of the nation’s economic problems became clearer Tuesday with the release of figures showing that prices at the producer level rose 1 percent in January, driven in large measure by energy costs. Compared with a year ago, prices were up 7.4 percent, the worst producer price inflation in the United States since 1981.
Other new figures showed that home prices around the country are falling at an accelerating pace, suggesting no end is in sight for the housing meltdown. As of Tuesday, regular gasoline was selling at a nationwide average of $3.14 a gallon, according to AAA, the automobile club, up from $2.35 a year ago. The price has jumped 19 cents a gallon in two weeks. Energy specialists predict that as demand picks up further this spring and summer, retail prices will surpass the high of $3.23 a gallon set last Memorial Day weekend.

So i just came back home from work…i go to work about three times a week-sometimes four. Too add on to that i go to pasadena every saturday on top of that. Oh and how could i forget about school five days a week. Keep in mind a couple random stops through out the week, and i basically go through my gas tank. So the point i was making is that i fill up my tank once a week now days..,which eats at my money lick a fucking virus. Its ridiculous. I mean i try to make it a habit of carpooling-which helps a little. but there isn’t always someone who can drive you somewhere. So i completely agree that a 4-day workweek would totally benefit us all in this time of need. Because half of us can even bare to drive (even though we have to) because we cant afford it!
i was driving with brandon to wendy’s like 2 weeks ago and we saw that the gas station said 2.99 and we were saying dam that place right there is super cheap and we were talking about how we should get gas there. well 2 days ago we were going again to wendys and that same gas station is selling gas for 3.49! we were like wtf!!! is going on we thought we were tripping out and i just cant say how ridiculous it is for gas to go up like this if i t were up to me i wouldnt even go to work or school show that we want gas for cheap.
WOW. 4 USD, thats really scary. I just wonder if any one finds driving over rated. I mean sure it offers a fast way to get from point A to point B, but with amount of automobile related deaths, the lasting effects of road rage, and now 4 USD just get a gallon of gas which probably like an average of like 80 if not more just to fill your tank up.. Um.. Yeah, what is the benefit of driving any more. I mean if time is money, then damn we are wasting so much time at work just on our lovable gas gusslers.
I was talking to my sister who lives in Santa Cruz and she was telling me how amazing living up north was. How much money she saves from not having a car. I envy her, I wish we had such a reliable public transportation system that really promoted a more economically, financially, environmentally and positive way of getting around… Oh perilous world.
Well that’s just shananagans, since we as drivers have to pay so much for gas. Seriously now a days its so much better to have an electric powered car or those hybrids. What really sucks about these gas prices is that they seem to have no near end. They keep raising and people everywhere drive making this elastic good very expensive. I guess most teenagers or people whom dont drive dont really put too much attention to these prices, but for the majority who do, its killing us! The U.S has to figure out what to do to lower these prices, or else things are just gonna get bananas!
P.S. Purther I’m sure your reading my blogs now since i told u that u teachers never read EVERYONES blogs. I just want you to know… Im watching you too.
dang i remember the good old days when gas didnt cost an arm and a leg. i dont drive but i feel for those who do, and have to pay their gas. if i were them, id drive as little as possible. forget about having a license. id rather take the bus. these prices are just ridiculous, it really puts me down cause now i dont wanna start driving. i hope that something is done to atleast keep the prices where they are and prevent them form going up any higher. cause if not were all gonna be neck deep in pricy gas.
If gas is really goin to be that high that means everything that has to do with gas is goin to raise its prices. I remember last when i took the bus in the summer the prices for the buses raised .25 cents. That was even a shock for people and if they raise gas prices to $4 it might be a problem for the transportation business. There is definitely a problem that needs to be fixed before these gas prices get out of hand. I know 2 weeks ago gas was like 3.09 now its like 3.50 so there has been a big jump since more people are starting to get out around this time of the year. Now they are talking about gas prices might go up even more well good luck with everybody sitting back and let it slide without saying anything. If there are american soldiers securing oil in other countries then its a good time for them to send it to our country.
Wow gas is getting more expensive every day. I remember the times back when it was about $1. 50 a gallon. 4 USD is a lot for gas even though europe has it worst. Hopefully we wont be having to pay 8 dollars like they do there, because that would be horrible but i can guarentee a huge reduction in traffic. Commuting to distant places wouldn’t be good as they are currently. We really do need more efficient public transportation because a lot more people are going to start taking the bus. It makes me kinda not regret having a car becuase i don’t have to spend all my money on gas.
