Slowly but surely, society is solely going to rely on technology. We're already doing it. In order to function and stay updated, computers and the Internet seem to be essential. My little brother is only five years old and he already knows how to turn the computer on and get to all his games and type his name and everything. He's already computer savvy. He knows how to operate cell phones, ipods, the playstation, the televison. \
It's only going to be improving and we're moving and adapting with it. These things become obsolete because they only get better and better.
As far as touch screen computers, of course. It just seems like a "duh". Keyboards will always be there however. People aren't going to enjoy talking to their computers. Maybe a touch screen keyboard is in question? :)

Its no doubt that technology will continue to advance, but how much until it becomes too much. I've always thought of robots one day. Maybe that will happen. But, for now, i already see technology taking over most of our lives. I mean, look at west house, half of the students have macs or other laptops and bring them to school everyday, myself included. We all have phones that we cant live without. Technology is just apart of us, and the more advanced it becomes the more we will rely on it and the less we will know how to do. We will have some form of technology solving problems for us.
For voice operating computers ans such, i think it is possible, a little creepy. I mean my mac can read me websites and papers and i just feel weird because its talking to me. But we can talk faster that we can type and in todays society the fast and more efficient we can get something done the more likely we are to do it that way. Its only a matter of time until everything we do, we rely on technology.

I personlayy like the keyboard. With my experience of voice operated machines they don't work that well. opperating a cell phone with my voice was horrible. The phone never understood what I was saying. An easy process of calling someone became long and tedious.

Maybe Gates can make the voice command system on a computer more user friendly. That would definitely help, but I really believe a lot of people will be resistant to the change. Keyboards have been around for a very long time starting off on typewriters and then switching to computers. A lot of people who already have difficulty with the complexity of computers mught just give up if they make things much more difficult.

In my honest opinion, I think that Gates has goneover his head. He has already made a name for himself and Microsoft is one of the most crucial aspects in everyday life, so it may seem. But I htink that trying to "advance" technology through touch and speech-controlled screens, is a little pushy. I mean it may seem cool and all, but it is kind of an unnecessaty need. It's quite ironic though, because i have jus come come from best buy and saw a computer that reminds me of this article. It was a computer they were promoting and had at the front of the 2 aisles displaying computers, laptops, and a few printers. At first it looked lyk a widescreen flat screen t.v. but it wuz actually a touch screen for computers. There was no need for a mouse, but a keyboard was still there. I was quite intrigued by the screen, not only because of the fact it was huge and touch screen, but also because it had an on screen keyboard that you can jus touch to input letters. Of course this product was very expensive, but for what it had to offer, it was fitting. But it causes you to think. If a touch computer screen can range from $1000 , just imagine how much a this "invention" Gates wants to create will cost. But nonetheless, I believe the most significant negative aspect of this newfound thought of technology is the fact that it is unnecessary and may cause complications. I mean the I-Phone is quite complicated,, and when this type of computer plays into mind, it's just lyk an I-Phone, except much much much more bigger! I think that society today is quite fine with what Gates has offered to us, and complicating technology may just make people lose interest in modern technology.

And what about accents?!
A little jumpy there mr gates...
I think the world just needs to take a break.
You can work on digitized vocalization of online surfing another day.
We'll live!
The things we need to address in the future starting now are the global issues staring us dead in the face.
The idea of synthetic trees and robotic wildlife is disturbing.
We're "paving paradise to put up parking lots" for crying out loud.
But back on track, over time we've managed to continue to break the spell of the typicality of life and advance into this modern day and age.
Knowledge is key to survival so let's use it shall we? Put your pocket book down for one second and look out the window. That image of naturale is ALL i want to be able to see in the future.

aaaand... maybe some anti-gravity dunks : P

Let's hold on to what we have while we still can.

I find it really amazing that all this new technology is being created. I think it's pretty exciting. Since we've started creating new gadgets, there's no turning back now. That could be a scary thought actually.

Bill Gates is an amazing genius. He has created so much technology and now he has come up with this keyboard. I think that he is one of the leading men to really push technology. I'm all for change and a new beginning, but the line has to be drawn somewhere. If a line isn't drawn then we would go out of control. We still need a little bit of do-it-yourself stuff. Let's not get too lazy.

In the future I hope to see book to brain scanners and instant weight loss machines. I also would like to be able to fly. If any one of those could be done I'd be happy. They would solve a number of problems. One would be obesity, which has clearly taken over our country. With an instant weight loss machine, fat would be a thing of the past. And with book to brain scanners we could all become geniuses in any given area. No one would have to stay up long nights anymore finishing a book for hours, instead they could get it all in a matter of minutes. It really would save time and lots of energy. And to be able to fly, is just a personal desire.

As far as the new technology being talked about here. I think all its doing is moving us forward to become a more technologically sophisticated society.I feel though that if any one of the future prospects we have for ourselves doesn't go full through completion, technology could get serious backlash and might never be the same to us again. Maybe taking us back a few generations.

wow... you guys are weird.
how fun. Um, no... people said it one hundred years ago "oh yes! flying cars in the year 2000" well guess what? the only flying thing beside a freaking bird is a plane...STILL. yes there will most likely be voice automated computers but the chances are that they will be a one time thing...we'll buy them, we won't like them, and that's it. Like Sam said, the computer along with the internet is where most private conversations are made. It's a powerful thing, the key board. When my sister or someone is in the same room as i, and i'm talking to someone, i don't want my sister to know what i'm saying, that's absurd, oh but i suppose that since the future will be so great, that they're going to build soundproof walls to go around you and the computer so no one can hear. that's Gay privacy :). i can only see business's /corporations using that stupid speech maching only to get their work done faster, then when they realize that the computer doesn't understand the words that are being spoken, you wind up spending more time correcting the computers errors than you would actually typing.

that's a lot of talking a person would have to do. it would kill me. one good thing, i think is that people would probablu get out of the "idk, wtf lol lmao" stand, and talk like humans, not computers...

that is all...idk. lol.

when i think of the future i think of flying cars and robots. flying cars would be pretty cool and possibly going to made in the near future. but with all the cool and good outcomes of the advancements of technology comes the not so good. ever since i saw the movie irobot it made me think what if that really happens. if technology tries to take over? that kind of scares me. so yea i am into the whole advancement of technology but to an extent, like the thing bill gates was talking about, that seems pretty cool

We live in an age of technology and it only gets better. Technology always gets more advanced. We grew up with crappy television and video game graphics, which now have evolved into realistic graphics. Mp3 players have advanced enough to play movies on small screens. What I personally would like to see is a very advanced hybrid car or an alternative fuel out of something useless (which of course wouldn't make it useless). No problems could really arise from that. Technological advances in our vehicles could help out more than it can destroy
After reading this blog, I stared at my old PC with windows 95 on it. You can see the pixels when it loads. It's pretty unsightly compared to what is out now. I've already seen some programs where voice is used to type, but they have not been as accurate as I thought they would be. But overall, technology constantly helps us and makes life a lot easier, but it's also been giving nature a run for it's money.

More memory in smaller music players is always good too.
