SF approves ID cards that exclude genders

I don’t see gender on an ID as a significant piece. Therefore, I am fine with cities or even the state not including gender on the ID. However, I am not sure any city should be giving IDs to illegal residents. It is already confusing enough for the federal government with 50 different State IDs. For the city to make another ID complicates matters and raises original intent questions.
I would prefer to see a National ID only, where STATE licensing would be attached to this, rather than having 50 or more different IDs.
Next year,
What the card won’t include: gender.
When other cities considered issuing ID cards without regard to legal status, the debate was over illegal immigrants. In
“Transgender” is a broad term for people who do not identify with their birth sex. Those who refer to themselves as transgender include cross-dressers and transsexuals.
“The card really makes gender a non-issue,” says Kristina Wertz, legal director of the
Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who introduced the measure, says illegal immigrants will benefit most. They will be able to open bank accounts and use the card for city services such as checking out library books.
He expects others, including transgender individuals, to find it useful.
“When they go from one gender to another, the state gives them some hassle about what is desirable for validation,” Ammiano says. “Having a municipal ID helps them quite a bit.”
City departments must accept the ID, except where state or federal law requires otherwise. That could include federally funded programs such as Medicare, says Pilar Schiavo, an aide to Ammiano.

Sure, why not? I seriously doubt that knocking off the gender will cause any problems. What I do have a problem with is that, apparently, this new ID is intentionally designed to make it easier for illegal residents to do things only citizens should be able to do. That’s just dumb. I’ve never really understood the reasoning behind giving illegal immigrants the rights of citizens.
I believe that removing gender from ID cards shouldn’t be a problem. Besides gender shouldn’t be an issie an any circumstance(aka racial discrimination). As long as the ID provides name, picture ID, date of birth and birthplace maybe? i dont know. but i agree with laffin that the only concern would be the fact that it would be less complex for illegal immigranst to get a hold of an ID card. Giving illegal immigrants the ame privilage as an American citizen is ridiculous, they dont know our system well enough to recieve one. but thats my opinion.
I don’t see any problem whatsoever about giving people an ID card without their gender on it. As long as it has your name, date of birth, and picture, that’s all that should really be on the ID card. I definately agree with Laffin that illegal residents should not be given the same rights a slegal U.S. citizens. It does make the situation more complicated than it needs to be. By not putting gender on an ID, in my opinion, is not a problem. There does, however, need to be precautions on who is getting the IDs and that no illegal residents are getting one. It would just make the whole process cinfusing.
hONESTLY I REALLY DONT THINK THAT THE GENDER ON ID’S MATTER. TAKING IT OFF FROM LICENCES SHOULDNT EFFECT ANYONE BECAUSE ITS JUST GENDER ITS NOT LIKE ITS YOUR NAME OR AGE. BUT I DO AGREE THAT ILLEGAL RESIDENTS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO GET ID’S BECAUSE IT WOULD DEFINETLY CONFUSE AND COMPLICATE THE PROCESS OF AN ID.
