I am curious how textbook publishing companies are responding to this new law. My textbooks for my courses are from 2001, so I am probably due to buy new textbooks in the next few years.
A referendum on this bill would put it on the ballot for
A group of religious conservatives launched a referendum drive Friday morning to overturn legislation that would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in school activities and instruction.
The legislation, Senate Bill 777, was signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger last month with little notice because the governor, at nearly the same time, vetoed the same-sex marriage bill.
Conservative groups say the bill would require far-reaching changes in school curriculum and activities. “This will mean either getting rid of mom and dad or adding a homosexual couple,” in a textbook, said Karen England, executive director of the Capitol Resource Family Impact.
The group has a tall order. It has to gather more than 400,000 signatures by January to put the bill before voters in June.

I think the referendum is likely not to amount to much any time soon, since they end up in court even if they pass.
The more likely scenario that will raise a bigger stink is the prospect of countless Christians believing that public education is lost beyond hope and choosing to PULL THEIR KIDS OUT OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS of them to put them in homeschooling programs, organized by a pool of parents supporting each other, or into a myriad of private mini-schools likely to spout everywhere as a result of greater demand for them.
The rallying cry is already sounding at places like this: http://cftie.org
