I believe that the mexican independence day is a great way to celebrate the separation under the spanish rule. Just like how we celebrate our independence day it brings back memories and the people of the country really feel proud of there nation. Its just a great way for the people of the country to come together and celebrate something that is meaningful and goes back in history.

i find cinco de mayo a joke… it has little or no significance at all in mexico. Mexican independance day makes me proud because a little poor country such as mexico fought against one of the most powerful countries in the world and won with basically sticks and stones. VIVA MEXICO!

That is so true lots of people just know about the 5 de mayo the only reason is because it is important but not as important as independents of mexico. many people do not really care about that becuase most of the people in the united states are americans. the other quater is hispanic, or mexican imigrants. There is nothing wrong with that but that is why many people dont really care aboutmexicos imdependence.

i agree with robert o. mexico only knows mexican culture, there fore has a strong feel for it. In america there is so much diverstiy, and so many diffrent cultures that the mexican culture can not be held up higher then any of the other ones. While everyone in america has the right to celebrate and practice any culture of there liking, those cultures always intersect with good old fashion christianity or catholosism. Its hard for someone with new ideas or old ideas on culture to brung forth there proposition when there is so much to chose from most peole might not take a second look

the main reason why i think this is so is becuase in mexico the people live in there counrty, and tghere culture is alround them, but here in the US those of the other cultures need to hold to as much culture as posible, so every little thing gets celebrated so the culture doesn’t end with there generation, but continues to the next. because if you don’t do this you will lose more and more of the culture, until it’s no longer mexico’s culture, but American.

Clearly the importance of September 16th for Mexicans that are actually born in mexico is much more important than cinco de Mayo. Well from my personal experience cinco de mayo has been brought up as a much more important event here in the United States because of the way that it is taught at schools. I was only educated in grade school about cinco de mayo not about the actual Mexican independence. Of course, many people have different opinions about this topic some might say that it is because cinco de mayo was the start of faith towards independence which guided people to believe that it was much more imortant than the actual day total independence was won.
